Intertitles: “Maine, The Land Of Remembered Vacations” “Official State Picture Maine Development Commission State House Augusta, Maine.” Reel 79 is a promotional film about historic sites in Maine with intertitles and shots of signs at the historic sites throughout. The historic sites people are shown exploring include Fort Edgecomb, Fort McCleary in Kittery Point, the ruins of the Powder House at Fort Sullivan in Eastport, the Lincoln County Jail in Wiscasset, a plaque commemorating Benjamin Foster reading, “The Foster Rubicon”, the Ruggles House in Columbia Falls, Orr’s Island, the George W. Bourne House, or the Wedding Cake House, in Kennebunk, the Governor Kavanagh House in Damariscotta, the Marie Antoinette House in Edgecomb, the only log church in New England at Oquossoc, the oldest Methodist church in Maine in East Readfield, the oldest Catholic church in New England in Damariscotta and the shell heaps in Damariscotta and Newcastle. The film also contains scenes from the town of York, ME, celebrating the three hundredth anniversary of York County. This footage includes a reenactment of the return of one of Maine’s two first senators, Sentor John Holmes, with an actor portraying him arriving in a horse and buggy and addressing the crowd from a balcony, shots of the crowd, the fire department demonstrating a hand pumped fire hose, a parade with musicians, a few marchers and horse drawn carts and carriages, people posing in front of the Holmes Homestead, which has been decorated for the occasion, a shot of children on an ox and a few shots of the sun setting.
