The film follows Admiral Richard E. Byrd and Floyd Bennett's first flight over the North Pole from the start of their journey by freighter out of New York Harbor, through their exploration and flight, and ending with a celebratory parade upon their return to New York and President Calvin Coolidge presenting Admiral Byrd with the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Reel 1: Admiral Byrd and Floyd Bennett pose for the camera. Shots of the freighter "Chantier" as it leaves New York Harbor, passes through ice floes, and anchors in King's Bay. A Fokker airplane, the "Josephine Ford", is brought to shore and assembled. It gets stuck in a snow bank and is dug out. They embark on the dirigible "Norge."
