A grant awarded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to Northeast Historic Film is now supporting work on digitizing and fully cataloguing Maine television collections that include Maine Public Broadcasting, Maine Public Television and about a dozen collections.
Yeah! And what a lot of words into a very long sentence for such good news.
The best part for me is that I get to keep doing what I like so much to do…abstracting the old news and programming to make it discoverable and accessible.
The collections include holdings that have been among our archives for some time but that we have not had the resources to digitize and catalogue fully. Now we will be able to do that work during the course of several years so that they will be available online through our web portal in the same way that so much of our collection is already available. This brings Maine resources to the international public in a way that was once only a shadowy hope.
The collections we will be working on now include portions of: WABI, WAGM, WCBB, WCSH, WGAN, WGME, WLBZ, WMTW, MPBN, MPTV, WVII.
