Views of snowy, mountainous coast. CUs of shore birds on rocky cliffs. The motorized launched is alongside the Bowdoin, and is then cast off, and passengers wave as them leave. Views of several dories near the rocky shoreline, and pan up to the shore. Views from the stern on board Bowdoin as a large military (?) steamer comes by. There is a large gun on the forward deck. A signal flag is lowered as it moves by. POVs from the Bowdoin as it moves along the shore of a small harbor, where fishing schooners are anchored stern into the coast. Views of the Bowdoin tied up to a dock with boys and men in shirtsleeves looking her over. This may be the harbor of Sidney, Nova Scotia, where they moored on August 25, 1934. Two of the crew are seen eating ice cream, and the ship is being fueled. Pan the shoreline where you can see the entrance to the canal and lock which lead out of the Bras d'Or Lakes at the southern end. Views of the canal, and bridge swinging out of the way of the ship, and the locks on the canal, with men opening the gates. A crew member throws a line to the lock workers and they walk along with the ship. Views of the ship in the lock, moving along with barrels of fuel and water on deck. Here Bowdoin destroyed her propeller, and had to be towed to Port Hawkesbury, where she was hauled and her spare propeller installed. Views of a tugboat throwing a line from her stern, and Bowdoin following along behind in tow. Views of several of the crew at the wheel, and shots of large steamers and schooners along the way. In one shot, a young boy joins the picture. May be the boats that met the ship as it entered Portland Harbor. Admiral MacMillan and his first mate are now in their uniformed best at the end of the voyage. Views from shore of the dock where Bowdoin is tied up in Portland Harbor on September 1, 1934. Family members fill the dock and the decks of the ship.
