Aroostook County footage. General description: One shows downtown Presque Isle on the town's centennial in 1920, and includes shots of businesses on Main Street such as the Opera House, potato and apple harvesting, hunting camps, nearby Grand Falls, and the Aroostook Valley Railroad, an electric trolley line. A.R. Gould, a businessman and politician, and W.W. Thomas, responsible for Swedish immigration to Aroostook County, are shown in the footage. NHF cataloguer's notes as follows. Intertitles in quotes. Reel 1: [Presque Isle scenes ca.1920, 875 ft.] First scene: horse drawn cart with potato barrels, in front of warehouses (scratched). Potato field, tractor. Title: 'Riverside Farm, largest seed farm in Maine, produces 50,000 bushels annually. Hoyt and Wheeler, proprietors.' Field. Dumping barrels of potatoes. 'Loading cars.' Apples, women, man leaning over branches. Two old men in hats showing apples in trees. 'Digging and picking, 300 bushels to the acre.' Potatoes. Men in background with two barrels. Foreground men lean over ground. Tree in far distance. 'Street scenes.' Horse and cart outside D.A. Stevens (dry goods), Haskell shoes. Child in street. Open car on right. Pan of strret?
