Compilation tape by WEGA Productions. It combines a copy of 'Lobstertown' with copy of 1989 Chronicle/WCVB story on Gouldsboro. ONSITE REFERENCE ONLY. 1. Opening frames: ''Lobstertown' is a 1947 film which documents life in a small fishing village on the coast of Maine. [A print of?] this film produced by Jeab Oser was presented to Sumner High School as an educational aid. This tape was made from a copy of the film which has been damaged slightly in its 40-plus year history...' 2. 'Lobstertown' (1947, 20 min. running time, sd., b&w): SEE DESCRIPTION IN PROCITE RECORD 2060 3. Intertitle: 'On July 1989 WCVB-TV in Boston aired a special edition of the program 'Chronicle' which focused on the Gouldsboro peninsula. WCVB-TV has given permission to include their program in this presentation.' 4. 'On the Road: Gouldsboro' (1989, 20 min. running time, sd., col.): Chronicle story with Peter Mehegan. Viewing notes: Peter Mehegan in his 1969 Chevy Impala, visits Gouldsboro area. The Chronicle story has three segments. FIRST SEGMENT: Ellsworth, Rte 1 toward Machias. Gouldsboro and Winter Harbor have 3,000 year round residents. Corea harbor, traps. Mehegan describes Louise Dickinson Rich's book The Peninsula. Interviews Marcia Spurling, age 85, friend of Rich's. Excerpt from film 'Lobstertown.' Vincent Young was in film (in dance hall and general store). Interview. Oser, the producer 'was some proud of it.' Bartlett, who starred in film went lobstering in Boothbay. Died of throat cancer. [He's shown smoking in 1947 film.] Film shown at Gouldsboro Grange now and then. SECOND SEGMENT: Fog story. Lobsterman Dale Torrey of Winter Harbor, talks about getting lost in fog. His brother, Doug Torrey, says Winter Harbor was 'mosquito harbor.' Grindstone Neck has many summer visitors. Historical b&w photos. Prospect Harbor sardine fishery. Warren Arons, constable, moved from New Jersey. Sally Crowley, town manger of Gouldsboro in office. Gouldsboro celebrating bicentennial--sign. THIRD SEGMENT: Casting Call. Dale Torrey in his lobster boat, featured in Alka Seltzer Cold Plus ad, clips from ad, he speaks about product. He describes director of ad was a woman, how she picked him. Got $1,800 check before they aired ads. Bought a fancy lobster boat, souped up 460 Lincoln, wins his class every year in lobsterboat races: Stonington & Beals Island. Approves of ad; 'they pumped a lot of money into town...they said I talk funny and I thought they did.'
