Abstract
Compiled black-and-white home movies of 1930 travels in Spain, edited with intertitles, featuring scenes in Sierra Nevada and Seville, including a Semana Santa procession.
Viewing Notes
Intertitle: "Sierra Nevada" Snow scenes around large stone buildings and landscaped grounds, church. Mountains, horse-drawn carriage, river valley. Intertitle: "By the road side" Burros idling near a café, men seated and reclining on a hillside. Pack of burros bearing cargo traveling on road. Waiter presents food and wine at table. Man dances comically for camera. Intertitle: "Sevilla, the door of the Cathedral" Extensive scenes of people passing in and out of the cathedral and on the street outside, including men in uniform and members of the clergy. Intertitle: "Waiting for the procession" People seated along the street, cameramen for Pathé and Paramount stand with tripods on their trucks, some watch from balconies. Intertitle: "The Procession" Semana Santa, Easter procession, including penitents in capirotes. Cut to Mrs. Houston reading newspaper at café table. Intertitle: "The Market of Sevilla" Market scenes, women with baskets, police on the beat, vendor stalls.
