Collection contains [George and David Dash--home movies] filmed primarily in and around Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Scenes at Bath, Maine, include activities at the Merrymeeting Camp for boys and girls as well as construction of the Carleton Bridge spanning the Kennebec River in 1927. Other coastal Maine scenes, including Bar Harbor, commercial fishing and coastal steamers, are documented. During one voyage aboard a steamer departing New York City, the photographer captured the historic whaler Charles W. Morgan, and another voyage followed the St. Lawrence River through the Thousand Islands area and to Quebec City. Dr. George Dash filmed scenes in and around the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
Dr. George Dash had a medical practice in Cincinnati. His son, David Dash, and daughter-in-law, Marion Dash, were licensed captains for the coastal ferry and tourist trade in Maine. David Dash served as an official photographer with the Coast Guard from 1941 to 1945.
