      Collection contains "Folk Play: As the Earth Turns," documentation of a community play based on the book by Gladys Hasty Carroll and performed annually in South Berwick, Maine, from 1935 to 1944, by local citizens. The footage includes the play in three acts, performed outdoors before a large audience seated on benches, with dialogue intertitles. Additional footage interspersed with the acts includes close-ups of the actors and several scenes shot from different angles.
      Writer Gladys Hasty Carroll (1905-1999) of South Berwick, Maine, published her bestseller, "As the Earth Turns," in 1933. The book, a chronicle of a year in the lives of a Maine farm family, was made into a Hollywood film in 1934. The film’s world premiere was held in Bangor.
