Bannister, John Collection

Bannister, John Collection
      Blue Hill, ME
Collection contains "Mission: Alpha Centauri," a parody of the television program "Star Trek" made by eighth grade students at Blue Hill Consolidated School in Blue Hill, Maine. The action was filmed both indoors, on a mock-up of the bridge of the Enterprise, and outdoors for scenes representing the surface of an alien planet.
John Bannister, who played the role of Captain Termite in the drama, owns the grocery store, Merrill and Hinckley, in Blue Hill. The television show "Star Trek" was in production from 1966 to 1968. "Mission: Alpha Centauri: The Making of a Small Town, Sci-Fi Classic," by Andrea McCarty, discusses a research project on the film in 2004 by MIT Comparative Media Studies students following work for Professor Henry Jenkins’ course on Media Theories and Methods.
