Summary
Collection contains a factual work titled "Golden Moment" about a Maine state soap-box derby contest held in Brewer. Includes scenes of the boys who competed, the race from start to finish, crowds watching the race and picnicking, a parade band and flag bearers, and the winners accepting their prizes and trophies. The first place winner also got a ride in a red convertible Corvette. Many of the cars displayed names of businesses and towns they were representing, including Rockland, Bangor, Old Town, Bucksport, Millinocket and Castine.
Biographical/Historical Notes
Richard Crawford lives in the Bangor-Brewer area. He participated in the 1956 soap-box derby national championship in Akron, Ohio. He appears in the film receiving an award for the Brewer race. He was 14 years old. A soap-box derby is a race between gravity-powered homemade vehicles. Wikipedia The contest in Brewer was cosponsored by General Motors and the Bangor Daily News.
