In August of 1862, a new regiment of volunteers was being formed in Maine--the 20th Regiment. Their colonel was a West Point graduate named Adelbert Ames, already hardened by battle. Their lieutenant colonel was a little-known theology professor names Joshua Chamberlain. Using period photographs, prints, music, and personal accounts, this video takes us through the Civil War with the 20th Maine and Joshua Chamberlain--though Fredericksburg, Gettysburg, and Petersburg to Appomattox, where Chamberlain was chosen to represent the armies of the Potomac at the surrender.

Preserve

Without cold storage at low humidity, the film in your basement or your neighbor's attic cracks, rots, and fades, and part of our region's history is lost. NHF staff members have the skills and tools to preserve your valued moving images.
