Summary
Collection contains scenes of family life and work at the family bakery in Greenville, Maine. Footage shows outdoor winter activities, children in Halloween costumes, high school and college sports, gardens, Guilford flood, and 1936 Greenville Centennial celebration. Also includes scenes of Buckingham Palace and of Evreux Air Force Base, France, with the 557th Quartermaster Corps, Aerial Supply Company. Collection also contains fiction: a short 1937 silent western with intertitles produced by CineArt titled "The Outlaws Escape."
Biographical/Historical Notes
John David Knowlton, the youngest of three children, was born in 1934 in Greenville, Maine, where his family owned and operated Knowlton's Bakery. His father and mother, David Lindsay Knowlton (1904-1948) and Lucy Laura Blethen (1907-1982), ran the bakery; Lucy also worked as a housewife. John D. attended Columbia College and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in France in the mid-1950s.
