Massive flames on hillside and dense smoke. Title card: ìOak Hill. August 1948.î Smoke in wooded area. [Oak Hill Road, Mount Desert, Maine.] Man on fire truck. Forest fire. Man sprays water on smoldering fire in burned-out forest area. Group of men hold fire hose in woods and spray water on blackened ground. Title card: ìChimney. Seal Harbor. September 1948.î Men sit on roof of house. Crowd gathered below watches men extinguish chimney fire.
Reel 5 Intertitle: "When the red cocks crow on Mt. Desert" Intertitle: "The 1947 Fire Starts" color, views of smoke and small flames, smoking landscape, burned over, pan. Intertitle: "The fire at its height" Pan of smoke and fire on hillside. Not very legible. Hillside with smoke above. lengthy pan, flames. Intertitle: "Oak Hill August 1948" Crew with truck, fire hoses. Dark smoke behind spruce trees. Truck proceeds down road, fire hose behind. Overexposed. Flames on ground, pan of burned area. Man with watertank on his back spraying flames. Fire in shrubs. Burned over area. Fir tree with flames. Another man with tank, uses pump. Views of fire. Group of men with hose' strong stream, of water. Pan of firefighters, many of whom wear collared shirts and khakis. Then men with shovels in smoking ground. Police officer with hanky. More people arrive including women and boys. They are on road. Intertitle: "Chimney Seal Harbor September 1948" Two people on barn roof. Ladders on shingle roof. Man throws something up, brings a bucket of water. There is fire coming from chimney. Then smoke from chimney. Man in overalls climbs ladder. End of sequence.
