Collection contains [Hiram Percy Maxim--home movies] and home movies by and about the members of the Maxim and Lee families. Along with footage of family weddings, holidays and travel, the Maxims created several edited and intertitled productions. "Mag the Hag: A Dripping Melodrama," stars Hiram Percy's daughter, Percy, as Percy Proudfoot, the aimless scion of a wealthy old family. Other films include a trip to Maine's Attean Lake in 1928, "Winter in Connecticut," a seasonal portrait, and "The Sea," filmed in Gloucester Harbor. Travels include a trip to Europe aboard the Mauretania, tours in North America to the mid-Atlantic states, sailing excursions in the waters of Connecticut and New York, and drives to the Maritime Provinces. Collection also includes Kodachrome and Kodak Cinegraph promotional reels.
Hiram Percy Maxim (1869-1936) was an engineer and inventor. His father, Hiram S. Maxim, from Sangerville, Maine, invented the Maxim automatic gun. Hiram P. Maxim was founder and first president of the Amateur Cinema League, which was formed in 1926.
