SHERLOCK HOLMES (1916)

The curved pipe, the suave dressing gown, “Elementary, my dear Watson”: all quintessentially Sherlock Holmes and all derived from one man. No, not from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle; but from a man named William Gillette. William Gillette was an American stage actor, playwright, and director most prolific around the turn of the 20th century. Gillette was extremely well-respected within the theater community for his numerous roles and the plays he authored; but his most famous and most popular role was as Sherlock Holmes in a play he wrote and performed in more than 1,300 times.

HAIL, CAESAR!,sponsored by PENOBSCOT FILM SOCIETY

http://www.hailcaesarmovie.com/

Comedy/Mystery
A Hollywood fixer in the 1950s works to keep the studio's stars in line.

"Imagine the madcap Hollywood antics of "Barton Fink" cranked up to another, more frantic tone and you've got the Coen Brothers' "Hail, Caesar!" in a nutshell. The film is both a zany love letter to the golden age of Hollywood and a somewhat pillowy rebuke of its flaws, but with its string of musical numbers and wide array of gorgeous celebrity co-stars it works best as an enjoyable variety show. This journey down memory lane is worth the trip..."

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII- THE FORCE AWAKENS, sponsored by FRIGHT AT THE FORT

http://www.starwars.com/

Nominated for FIVE OSCARS!

Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Science Fiction

"“Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens” is the film that J.J. Abrams was put on Earth to make, as evidenced by the "Star Wars" echoes in his hit series "Lost,” and the way he kept trying to turn "Star Trek" into "Star Wars." These tendencies could seem cutesy or irritating elsewhere, but they make sense in an according-to-Hoyle "Star Wars" movie. This new one, set 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi,” is funny, touching, and surprisingly light-footed."
